Growing up was tough. I witnessed stuff I would hate my two children to experience, and looking back, I can see that I was always the ‘adult’ in the household. Because of this, I grew up too fast and in those early years I started to develop some defences that would last into my forties, such as workaholism, a penchant for too much booze, a problem revealing my vulnerability, a heavy dose of 'people pleasing' and perfectionism.
Then, at the age of forty, I was diagnosed with breast cancer. I went through 18 months of treatment, during which time I carried on working full time. I was also studying for a master’s degree at the same time, so a fifty hour week wasn’t unusual. The decision to carry on flogging myself at work like this, whilst undergoing gruelling treatment was crazy.
On the day my treatment ended, not surprisingly perhaps, my unravelling began. My marriage had died and it was a wake-up call to start some proper healing of mind, body and soul. That day saw the start of my healing journey. I got myself an amazing counsellor, became inspired by Buddhism, discovered mindfulness and started to consume material on personal growth. And now, life is fantastic. It still has its ups and downs, but I can see these for what they are; all part of the natural ebb and flow of life. What’s more, I feel like I’ve discovered my real self and realised Claire Hunter is pretty ok! Even without the over-working, excess booze and people pleasing!
I realise it's different for everyone but for me, cancer was a gift. It's spurred me on to live like I really mean it, and to inspire others to do the same.
So that’s the juicier biography, here’s my ‘professional’ one!
Qualifying as a nurse in 1992, I quickly moved into health service roles with a heavy emphasis on education, development, coaching and management. I’m a qualified Adult Education Teacher and also hold a Diploma in Life Coaching. I have worked for many years in various NHS leadership positions, most recently as a national Head of Learning, Development and Quality. I have extensive experience of developing high quality educational programmes. I am also a Mental Health First Aid Instructor for MHFA England, mindfulness teacher and Reiki healer. I am tireless in my energy and enthusiasm to inspire, develop and mentor others; using both my strong academic background and real life experience to facilitate personal growth.
So if there’s anything in this story that resonates with you, why not hang around?! I’d love it if you did.

But don't just take my word for it……
Kate says……'If you’re thinking about working with Claire, don't just think, do it. Claire is fabulous, she is an inspiration, it will never cease to amaze me that Claire manages to accomplish all that she does and have the time and energy to help others generally and through this programme. Claire has such a generous spirit; patient, encouraging and so full of enthusiasm. Being able to learn from Claire has been a fabulous experience, I find myself thinking of things I've learned every day without fail. I find that I deal with situations much better now, I don't get stressed anywhere near as easily, and when I do, I actually take it for what it is and manage to let it go so much easier.'
Alice says…..'Claire has been on an incredible journey herself. She knows how it feels to take the plunge and make proactive changes to one's thinking and behaviour. She allows us to be ourselves and work at our own pace and gives gentle prods along the way to keep us focussed and empowered to make positive changes. She believes wholeheartedly in the teachings she shares with us and provides us with evidence that they work. It is obvious from the outset that she is a caring and compassionate person who wants to share her knowledge and journey to help others. She also shows how these changes can take place within busy professional lives as she lives and breathes it herself.
